Green Places in Brighton, Michigan
The 4,957-acre Brighton Recreation Area is the jewel of Brighton area parks. The park has high, irregular hills with several miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and equestrian uses. The trails range in length from the short 1-mile Bishop Lake Hiking Trail to the 9-mile long Murray Lake Trail. The rolling hills provide a scenic outlook for the number of attractive, fish-stocked lakes that are a popular attraction for fishing enthusiasts. The park is known for its blend of thickly forested areas mixed with grassy marshes, thick hedgerows, open spaces and dense swamps that can make navigating the park a challenge if you go off trail.
For the horse enthusiast, Brighton Recreation Area is also the home to the Brighton Recreation Riding Stable. The Stable offers horseback riding, trail rides, pony rides, lessons and seasonal hay rides. Horses are also boarded at the Stable. It is also registered as an official Equestrian Center, with competitions and events occurring throughout the year.
