Green Places in Ann Arbor, Michigan
Ann Arbor flourishes with many parks that are popular attractions for residents and visitors to the Ann Arbor area alike. Gallup Park, a 69-acre park located along the Huron River and Geddes Pond, is one of Ann Arbor’s most popular recreational areas. The park is filled with scenic walkways, small ponds, and waterways with islands in them, miles of paved and unpaved bike trails, meadows and open fields, and picnic shelters with picnic areas. The main bike trail meanders through the park, following the course of the Huron River, and connects to a wooden plank trail (a boardwalk) that if followed, is one of the most beautiful areas of the park.
A unique feature of Gallup Park is that it contains a canoe livery where single and double kayaks, paddle boats and canoes can be rented for an afternoon row or float. Some of the kayaks can be taken down the Huron River and returned at other parks that are downstream from Gallup Park. Fishing is also a favorite activity in the livery area, either from a boat or from one of the many observation decks that mark the area.
